Host a Foreign Exchange Student in Ohio

In the 2019-20 Academic Year, 35,508 international students studied in the state of Ohio.  1,391 of these students attended high school or secondary schools in Ohio and most of them lived with host families.

Ohio host family homes are welcomed to become part of the exciting world of student exchange. Exchange students will be arriving in August from countries such as Germany, Brazil, South Korea, Columbia, Thailand, Belgium, Mexico, Ecuador and others.

  • Have their own money for spending at the Zoo, Museum, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and for any incidentals they may need.
  • Are completely covered by their own medical insurance while they stay with you.
  • Have an English skill level of at least 70%.
  • Are high school students aged of 15-18.
  • Receive a medical testing prior to leaving their country.
  • Maintain good grades in their home school.

Any Ohio resident can apply to be a host family. Host families can be a single person, single parents, or empty nesters. It does not matter if you live in a house, town home, condo, or apartment, you can host a foreign exchange student.
